3rd generation legacy - what to look for

Guys,

I am contemplating chopping in my 1989 merc 190 in for a legacy/outback of the 3rd gen vintage.

I'd be glad for any info in terms of thing to look for, known issues, pros and cons of 2.5 and 3.0 motors

I did used to run a forester 2nd gen, non turbo, how does the legacy compare, in terms of ride and handling etc
