BRZ / GT86 clunking front suspension issue

Is it wrong for a major car manufacturer to release a vehicle with suspension that feels as though something is about to drop off? Mine clonks over ridge joints and speed humps like it is a 100K MOT reject. Received the default dealer line however: "Yes, they all do that sir."

Australian and US forums suggest this is a common problem. Subaru know of it but no fix available (yet?). It feels as though the steering rack is loose, the top strut joint has play, or there is some play feeding back from the shocks. There is some suggestions that it may be the engine mounts on manual cars only. A common symptom but no definitive answer on the cause. Frustrating as it spoils what is in all other respects a great car. Could go to an independent but others have tried and failed to identify where it's coming from. Long shot may be to change the shocks as it seems to occur on sudden load changes mainly on the rebound.
