But for Subaru!!

Does anyone put winter shoes on their P&J? I have a 2000 wagon which I am taking to Munich (I am working there) in the New Year, snow tyres (at the very least) are compulsory in Winter.

What do you use? Any recommendations?

Thanks - NW

Have had Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme on the FSti for the last three winters, they've been incredibly good.

I bought a set of Kumho KW17 (I think) winters (205/50/R16) for my classic wagon for £390 fitted last winter and it was unstoppable so long as the snow wasn't overly deep. On my summer Potenza RE050s it still goes in the snow/ice but won't stop or steer! laugh

Another vote for Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme. Had them last winter and they'll be going back on in the next month.

Noklian WR G2's for winter going on probably next month sometime, used them for the past three winters, still plenty of tread left on them and they work great.

I've a set for my Blobeye STI - I am trying to remember what ones they are - I think maybe Michelin Pilot Alpin. They are 245/40/18s anyway. Just trying to decide when the last nice has passed and it's time to fit them! I'm told the car is very very good in snow with them on, but as I've only had it since April and it hasn't snowed since then, I can't comment.

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated. I have spoken with a few guys here and a recommendation was NEXEN Winguards (Good in both fresh and compacted snow) - Come in quite a bit cheaper than the Vredesteins (I can source for just 67 quid a corner so need to add fitting/valve/balance).

Will ask about a bit more as I intend to get them early December as I will not be bringing the wagon over here until December 30th.

Suggest you buy a well known brand I have a set of Conti's for the legacy, had 'em 6 years or so, they're awesome in snow, I ski regularly and drive in worst alpine conditions, never had a problem. They now are about half worn having done probably 20K miles. Last winter I bought a set of cheap winter tyres from local tyre shop for the wife's Beetle, they've only done about 5K and are almost worn out, looking at the tyres side by side the Conti's have much more 'supple' rubber, the cheapies have soft rubber but it feels almost abrasive, Don't know whether that makes sense.
Suggest you buy a decent brand, cost difference ain't huge and over time the Conti's have cost very little for the mileage I've done on them.

I have used Debica (Budget Michelin), Vredestein, Avon and Nokian winter tyres. TBH, ANY winter tyre is an order of magnitude better than the summer ones. It's currently Nokians on my WRX - well in the winter anyway.

Holy thread resurrection batman! hehe

I got a set of nokians for last winter, by far the most grip I have ever experienced on snow, frost and cold damp roads.

In saying that, I'm sure any set of winter tyres will perform similarly when new and with AWD.

I used the yokohama advan winter on my old bmw and they lasted two winters around 30k good below 10deg above that and they are like riding on jelly.
I drove them hard and they never let go recommended by jeff fowkes ibstock Leicestershire.
Excellent in the snow but in the rain on a cold day you can just push them and they just grip, had a merc do a 360 just trying to follow me around an island.
