The majority of the time I put 95ron in my WRX over about 40K miles, and I never had any issues. I was however a little more naïve back then with regards to understanding these cars.

If your car is standard, from Subaru and designed to run on 95 Ron you won't get more power by putting 99 octane in it unless its mapped for that fuel.
You can map it for LPG which is over 100octane for more power still, apparently.

Hi,
I've got a Tesco, Sainsbury , BP and Shell nearby so very spoilt for choice. I started running mine ( Standard 2.5 WRX) on regular Tesco 95, then switched to Momentum with a small noticeable difference. I tried a tank of Sainsburys Super Unleaded and tbh found it no different to the regular Tesco unleaded. On recommendation from reading here I tried some Shell Nitro, and IMO it surpasses anything else I've tried. Not used anything since, the car feels smoother, better all round performance and just feels "right".

Newage Impreza Turbo since Bugeye are meant to be run on 98/99RON.

There's a sticker on the inside of the petrol cap of my BugEye and it clearly states 98RON because that was the best fuel available in the UK at the time my car was manufactured. I'd always run my car on the very best fuel i could get. If that was 100RON or better i'd use that all the time.

If you regularly run your Impreza Turbo on 95RON you will never see the full potential of the factory mapping in terms of ignition timing due to DET. Cars run on 99RON will make more power than cars run on 95RON and that's just on the factory mapping. They will also run smoother and less likely to pull a shedload of timing in hot weather.

I've plugged into many factory map cars in hot weather, without mods, and i've seen them pull 5-7+deg of timing due to DET. Those with mods and no remapping i've seen pulling even more, taking several 16ths of timing (IAM - Initial Advanced Multiplier) from the main timing table. Suffice to say those cars run like crap.

Cars run on 99RON may even acheive better mpg too. They might still pull a bit of timing in hot weather but certainly nowhere near as much as cars run on 95RON.

Run your car on 95RON if you wish but don't be deluded into thinking that nothing bad is happening to your engine because it is. Impreza turbo engines run on the best fuel possible will last longer and run better than those run on 95RON. Fact!

This.. E5 (98) as a minimum, not E10 (95) unless you REALLY have to and not as a regular occurrence.

If you can get V power then fine and well done.. but 98 E5 is what its mapped for. (assuming stock)

The fuel situaion is pretty poor in NI. No Shell Nitro, no Tesco Momentum. They'd clean up there are Scoobies and Evos everywhere. (I wrote to Tesco once and told them this but they cited transport costs and brushed me off)

Recently discovered Sainsbury in Ballymena selling Super for £1.329. My car seems to like it too. Runs smoother than on BP (1.389) or GO (1.399) so a double win there.

That's a pity. I was on a bit of blast this afternoon up the Shanes hill from Larne, church road to Slemish and then Causeway coast road up to Portrush. Needed to refill on the way back to Moira so filled at the BP in Ballyclare.

It's all I've run on for months as I can never seem to find anything else when I need it! None of the sainsbury's my way seem to do it.

On a side note, I was topping off this morning and a guy in a sti hatch rolls up beside me and fills it with BP regular.

O/T but if you're interested in a coffee and a yarn some some Sunday evening, a few of us meet up in Sprucefield most weeks. There's generally a broad selection of cars with an A45 amg, Fiat Abarth, Skyline, some Edition 30 Golfs as well as a few Imprezas. A few Evos even turned up tonight for once.

ScoobyIreland meet on Tuesday nights too but sometimes it's hit and miss as to whether anyone turns up.

I run mine on LPG, with Shell V-Power in petrol tank.
I keep a Santander 123 Credit card in the car that I only use for fuel. It gives 3% off, which equals a shade over 2p a litre of LPG but nearly 5p a litre for the V-power top ups.
I watch www.filllpg.co.uk for prices.

Mine's on LPG and has been for the last 40k. The petrol tank contains 99RON Shell V-Power. My local Shell garage is currently 53.9p per litre for LPG :-)))
