Some more noise. The pops and bangs towards the end of the video are ridiculous...
That overrun is a bit much for me. Does it do that all the time or are you keeping it going by feathering a bit more than normal?

The kids sound utterly wonderful. Can't wait for Eleanor to grow up so I can do the same smile

It only does it when you lift off. It's also on a switchable map, so I don't have it on all of the time.

Tell me you have that on a switch that says super pursuit mode smile

How old are your kids, BTW, and did they like your previous cars as much?

hehe

They are 4 (identical twin girls). They liked 'super fast' as they called it, but they prefer 'blue super fast' smile they asked me why there was a table stuck on the boot!

My car, and subsequently my breakfast this morning, has blown its egg gaskets. So it looks like it will be rebuilt sooner than expected. Suggestions as to what to go with welcome!?

Ah, if anyone wonders what the oblong shaped bruise is down the side of my face, well, that's the indentation from my wifes Furniture Village catalogue...

Bad luck, mate. I'd stick to bacon for the breakfasts and contact API for your engine and let them suggest a few items. If it's just the HG then a basket of Cosworth items is generally best but if you're planning a rebuild David at API will sort you out.

Bad Luck? Well, a rebuild was always on the cards, however, I was hoping to do it later in the year. It seems to have kind of clashed with the wifes living room refresh programmeargue

I have spoken to a number of places and got some good advice, however, and without mentioning names, I was strongly advised against 'drop in pistons' by a few and conversely had a few sing their praises. From a bit of research and applying some logic, I think I would rather do it properly and rebore the cylinders.

There are also some conflicting views on what the standard conrods and crank are good for confused However, I don't think this is an issue given what I want to achieve.

I will update soon as things progress!

Jolly Simon has been super helpful answering my myriad of questions smile

A shame to hear about the gaskets. It was a good sounding car before they went, though the pops and bangs map was a bit artificial sounding. Glad to hear you found your way back to an Impreza though, the other marques didn't seem the right fit for you.

Yeah, they don't sound 100%, but they are a hoot!

It'll be back soon!

Was worried with that overheating and rad fans not being plugged in. Must be early stages though as it behaved perfectly on the dyno.

I think its early stages too, however, I don't want to temp fate and damage the block or something else unnecessarily.

These are great cars when forged, and it was part of the master plan. 400bhp and a wallop of torque will make it a great road car wink

Bloody hell mate, really sorry to hear about the gaskets going. I kind of feel bad for putting you onto it but if it didn't show any issues on the dyno then I guess it couldn't have been predicted.

I am suprised to say the least!

Hope you get it sorted the way you want it mate......

No drama, its all part of the game - fiddling with cars wink

The rad fans have not been plugged in since the cambelt change, which must be more than a year ago! Given it shows no chronic symptoms, it must be really minor and just a small leak into the coolant system.

If anybody has any opinions on pistons I would really appreciate it (Simon?). I know forged are a bit noisy, but I want something quiet and long lasting, and I'm getting some conflicting views!

Cosworth or Supertech were talked about when I had my Hawkeye but like you say just dropping them in isn't the answer - do the supporting work too and it'll ensure they last and remain quiet.

Simon is probably the best man on the planet to tell you how to get to a stock sounding 400/450 map which won't turn into a fireball smile

I'm in the same boat as you.

Same car, similar HGF symptoms and now trying to decide how far to go with the rebuild and who with. I'm swaying towards API.

Who's doing the work for you?

Make sure you get the right advice about drop-in pistons. I got some conflicting advice on this topic.

Paul at Extreme Scoobies is doing the work and Lateral are providing some parts.

Wossner pistons
Gaskets (numerous places have said the standard ones and Cosworth are the same in terms of reliability)
ARP head studs (this is what really fixes the HG problem)
Bearings
Head skim
Rebore
Oil pickup pipe replaced (I might get a Killer B one shipped)
Cambelt
Oil pump
If you've got the cash to pay for it it'll see you good until I buy it off you smile Plus you've felt the car before the power upgrades so it'll feel that much more worth it too.
