2014 WRX STI - contemplating it, anyone here got one yet?

Well, more gadgets than the raw RB5. The SI drive thing, put it into S+ and it wants to take off! The diff is completely controllable, don't really want to mess with that yet, not sure what to do with it.
The central display jobbie is pretty informative, and it had a button to start it - all you need really.

I've ummed and arred about them for years, but despite owning most of the Japanese cars I've lusted after at some point, I've never had an Impreza or Evo. Anyway, harsh winters and some trips to Colorado are in my future, so they seem like a sensible all rounder.
Oddly, I find myself wanting a classic more, but it's probably just because I know I can't have what I want in the US (P1).

I like it a lot. I'm half tempted to get an older one as I'd like to do a build and use it as intended, but the 2015 model seems a cracker.
Unfortunately the one I was meant to be driving sold before I got there, but I did get a chance to have a poke around it, just not a drive. Did get a jaunt in a WRX which was way more impressive than expected. Both WRX and STI looks infinitely better in the flesh than in photos - quite how they managed to be so unflattering through a lens I'm not sure, they're really rather nice. Also, looks lovely in red. Not what I'd order but I can see why the guy did.
The only down side is the lead time here is a bit strong, 6-8 weeks. They've got a couple due in over the next few weeks but none in WR Blue or white, which is what I'd be after.

This is very true Stu, they do look a million times better in the flesh, the photos and the brochure really don't do it justice.

Quite a few on AT now, 26k gets you in one at the bottom end of the price, I would get one but the depreciation will be horrendous, I've had 3 before with the best being a SpeC ltd in red, lovely car.
Maybe wait a year or 18 months, let someone else take the massive hit, not trying to slate the cars, they are lovely and if I didn't care about the deprecation I'd get one, I know all cars lose money but the scoobys are particularly bad.

Somehow, it looks better in a car park next to a bin than it does in most of the promo shots! Maybe it's the whole 'hard working' vibe and they just look better when used.
Audis need clean skylines and distant mountain scenery, Subarus look best parked through the front window of the local post office
Had mine for 2 weeks, in Oz two variants of STi - base & premium, mine is the base, minus wing.
Very useable, old engine not as tractable as the FA20 in the WRX (especially in heavy traffic), but far more character than the WRX!
My only real gripe is getting used to the high engagement point of the clutch and the need for some revs to get it off the line cleanly, getting used to it.
Compared to a EVO 9 I used to own, the ride is better around town (still fairly firm, but not much more than the new WRX). Can hear a slight UEL header boxer rumble in cabin around town, more vocal after 3-4K revs and I personally love that sound!
Speakers (Harmon Kardon) are ok, not an audiophile so don't care much about this. Sat Nav is really old tech though, again not that concerned.
The main thing I love about it is the mechanical feeling of it, especially the steering, gearshift, drivetrain whine and that engine sound!
In a sense the stuff with the stereo, lack of 'comfort' just fades away for me. The other car that I'd considered, as it made more practical sense (in many different ways) - the Mk 7 Golf R, may be winning all the magazine tests and getting the accolades, but it just seemed a bit dull and artificial to me at suburban speeds. Perhaps in the longer term it may the better proposition.. For a decent period at least I'll enjoy this endangered species

With £20k appearing to be he asking price for nice 10 plate cars, I don't follow your reasoning. Depreciation of just £1800 per year over 5 years is just over 6% per year, and you get the benifit of a brand new car with 3 year warranty etc... Funding a new car is usually the prohibitive factor. What would you find acceptable in terms of depreciation? Pal of mine blew 35% in 18 months on a new Merc - now thats depreciation!lucky5trike said:

This statement is quite false. There are plenty of imprezas about that cost £25k new and at 10 years old are still fetching £9k.Mine is 16 years old now, cost £24k new and is still worth £6k or so. Thats very very little depreciation compared to most cars.
Tell me a car you think does better than that? E36 M3 - cost maybe £35k new? Now worth anywhere from £3k to £8k. Any examples of cars you think fare better?

Thats because you have a limited edition car, No one apart from enthusiasts will buy a 10 year old subaru.Mine is 16 years old now, cost £24k new and is still worth £6k or so. Thats very very little depreciation compared to most cars.

No, not just the limited editions at all, look them up. All the STI`s hold value very well. A 2008 STI hatchback is still worth around half of its new value 7 years later, a 2005 Impreza STI will cost around £9k at 10 years old, a 2003 STI will cost around £6k too and even an STI from around 1997 will fetch similar money even more so a type-r. These cars are holding their value almost just as well as the limited versions do too. They are great cars depreciation wise. Your original statement is very wrong. These sorts of figures are facts and most Imprezas have done much better than most cars in terms of depreciation.
