Just replaced the MAF sensor on a UK Impreza Turbo 2000. Part ordered from Subaru from the chassis number and received the right part.

Is it normal for the car still to run a bit rough for a while?

Have plugged into diagnostics and no codes or errors showin, is idling nicely and revs freely. But in 3rd/4th/5th under load the car is intermittently hesitant and occasionally 'kangaroos'. Backing off throttle and holding at constant revs (2.5 - 3k) for a few seconds seems to let it clear its throat and it then pulls strong again. I have tried giving it the beans on the motorway, which helped a bit, but still not right.

I have heard the electronics need to re-learn with the new sensor installed and will settle down in time - is this right or do I need to be looking for something else?

Thanks.

Try dis-connecting the battery for half an hour or so to "re-set" the ECU, I've heard that it's helped people in the past.

I replaced one on my 96 sti several years ago and the running problems went away straight away. Good luck sorting it out

Funny enough that you should say that the fuel pump is dodgy, I'd forgotten that I had a walbro 255 sitting in the garage for the last 6 months!

Half an hour and it's in, easy job!

No idea what a walbro 225 is ( could google it I suppose ) - car has been taken on flat bed to a local garage for fixing. Thank goodness for the RAC smile

Walbro 255l/hr fuel pump, about twice as powerful as the stock unit and much more reliable.

It'll be needed for when you up the boost with bigger injectors...

I've resisted doing that so far - car is standard and planning to keep it that way....
