As a current owner of an 08 Impreza Hatch and previous owner of a 2003 wrx impreza. I say go and drive it!

In the 2/3years of hard driving my wrx had (I was 21 when I got it), it never failed me / disappointed me at all. They say don't meet your heroes , I did ( wrx ) and it lived up to everything I hoped it would. The Feel of the car , the sound , the handling was great. I was sold on the brand, had to go away from them for a while but happy to be back!

I have always been a fan and now have a rather more sensible 1.5r Impreza hatch , though the speed is not really there the sound and feel still is and I think you will only get that if you go and take one out.

I think that particular one might be a little bit high priced , so haggle hard. When I recently bought mine , as a deal closer I got some road tax thrown in. The dealer wasn't aware how much the tax cost for them so you can use this too.

There is a 57 74k one listed for £5k on a big car trader website.....

Good Luck :-)

Drive it to see what you think - I have 3.0R outback that replaced 2.0d Outback (years ago had a 2.0 Turbo Legacy, 1992 vintage) - not driven petrol non-turbo 4-pot but I like the rest of the car very much. In fact, when I was changing the 2.0d I got a 3.0 because I couldn't think of anything I wanted to change apart from the engine smile or at least comparable BMW, Audi, Merc etc all cost many times more (though again I wasn't considering 2.0 4-pots)

Interesting looking 3.0 for a similar price. Real world mpg won't be hugely different between 2.0 and 3.0.
(This is PH after all!)

The prices are absolutely all over the place for these - that one in the ad above is cheaper than mine (though a year older), but mine was a lot cheaper than any others for sale at the time I got it (a month ago)

When I got my 07 outback 3.0r at new year, it had 36k miles on it and was a little more expensive than the outback in the link - at the time it was the cheapest outback with less than 40k miles in the country, at the same time there were a couple of 4 pot petrols and diesels, both with higher miles for a significantly higher sticker price.

I reasoned, at the time, that the high road tax perhaps made the 6 pots less attractive, plus there might be an expectation that they are ruinous to run, (which doesnt appear to be the case!) but I think its probably because there just isn't a huge number of these about and so dealers adopt a bit of a random approach to pricing
