I've got a model that I think wasn't sold in the UK - its a 2.0 GT with non-Spec B suspension. So, it has the same 2.0-litre engine as GravelBen, but with only a single turbo, producing around 180kW/240bhp, but also a much softer ride that suits its current role as a family hack quite well. Gets loaded with bikes, kit, stuff. I think this might be what you seek... biggrin

As an aside, I've also had a 2004 2.5 NA Liberty and currently have a 2007 Forester with the 2.5 NA engine. Torquey, and OK to cruise around, but a bit lacking when you tried to punt them along at pace, not exactly economical either. A mate has a 3.0 Outback, which he's had for about 8 years, and he loves it. Always seems a bit slow and thirsty, to me, for what it promises, but suits what it needs to do.

If you're thinking Liberty or Outback, then either will be fine, and have a go in a Forester too.
