Right, looking to fit a new system from the cat-back. I'm keeping the manifold and cats standard, but want to hear the flat 4 sounding how it should!
Been looking at Cobra and stuck on a decision between resonated and non-resonated.
Baring in mind, I plan to a LOT of long distance driving next year, including European rallies, will a non-resonated exhaust drive me insane with the drone?
Cheers.

Yes, I have searched this, can't really find anything Impreza specific though.

What age is the car? Some cars have equal length headers (manifold) and some have unequal length. The unequal length are part of what gives the Impreza its burble. Have a RCMS stainless back box on my 03 car and it gave the noise I was after when going for it, but when cruising it is very quiet.

I've a full 3" Milltek with a resonated centre and it's pretty loud but fine on the motorway. The backbox will be your main issue so go to a dpecialist and try a few out. H&S won't do you wrong and will sound great.

I have a de-resonated centre pipe and an Afterburner vortex backbox. It's ridiculously loud and does drone a bit when cruising. Fine for a blast (which is what I use the car for), but I wouldn't have the set-up for a daily.

Thanks for the replies.

Considering the amount of long distance use it's going to get - i'm going for a resonated section!
Backbox wise, i'm still un-decided, but now Hayward and Scott are looking like a sensible choice.

H&S make the Afterburner. A Prodrive backbox is nice for longer distance, as is the Ninja 2.

I've got the resonated Milltek system on my Forester XT, when cruising there's a burble, but it's not overly intrusive and doesn't drone, however, when I really step on it it sounds like god snorting cocaine!

I have a non resonated H&S centre pipe on my Forester and it isn't too bad. When I got the car it had an Afterburner Vortex backbox and as the previous poster said, it's bking loud!! I soon changed it to the H&S 2.5 inch back box and it's fine. Still a great noise but doesn't give me a headache like the vortex one did.

As an aside, I once drove a decated Subaru with a twin exit backbox. It was really quiet until you opened it up. Might be worth considering.
