Giving some serious consideration to this Impreza at the moment -http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221716505932?redirect=mobile

And was wondering how bad an idea it would be for doing maybe 10-15k (mainly A road and motorway, hardly any traffic) a year with a few hundred miles of towing an 800kg Peugeot 205 on a 300kg single axle Brian James trailer (trailer is plated for 1300kg at the moment but shouldn't be difficult to get a 1200kg plate made to stay legal behind the Impreza).

Also, any further comments on the Impreza in question would be appreciated!

That wagon looks like a great buy IMO. Will be practical, very quick and absolutely bombproof with that engine build and 6-speed box. I much prefer wagons so one upgraded to "STi-spec" if you like is rather appealing.

Absolutely no reason for not doing highish miles in an Impreza if it is well maintained. I do c.14k pa in a classic wagon and *touch wood* it is very reliable.

I am still very interested, just struggling to get a decent insurance quote. Even Adrian Flux (who quoted <£500 for a stripped, tuned & caged Peugeot 205 GTI) offered somewhere north of £2000 as I have not had a road car over 200bhp.

Anyone have any suggestions for specialists? I have been told Keith Michaels are worth a try so I'll give them a ring on Monday.

I've never had a good quote from Adrian Flux. Or Keith Michaels for that matter.

Gary Moulson at Keith Michaels is excellent. Give him a try.

Gary at Keith Michaels too. He's insured mine for the last nine years.

Like you, I've also got a 205 track car and Heritage insure it on a Classic policy for £150.

That Wagon looks fabulous.

I just got a 2005 WRX with a tow bar, not so much that I want to tow my track car, but that's how it came. It will be useful to drag a boat in and out the water though. I'm pretty sure though that it's not rated for 1200kg but maybe that's because I've got the EJ20?
