loads more info at Scoobynet.com.
but from my poor memory, yes the engine will go in.
no chance of it working with the ECU without a daughter board (££)

Why don't you just source a 'classic' engine?

Because a friend has a written off low mileage bugeye which I'm already taking the diffs gearbox and driveshafts from it also it's a very cheap price have you any other contrabution to the original question?

I wouldn't dare! Good luck with the transplant, but you'll be very lucky if it ends up being 'cheap'.

Do it mate! Its well worth the conversion! The avcs engine's have a lot more torque.

I happen to have done this very conversion in my 96 STI. Wiring is a bit of a headache, best to take it to an auto electrician if you're not confident as entire loom needs to go unless you run an aftermarket ECU such as a Link G4. I swapped the whole loom over.

Before (original V3 STI engine)

After (2002 V7 STI EJ207 AVCS engine)

A few pics along the way

dont have a link.. just seen a thread or two about projects which looked intresting. but they appeared not to be a straight swap which is what I think you were thnking about.. its mostly electrickry which adds up the time n bills as stated above, the loom needs swapping over or a aftermarket ECU, which I think you are looking at a grand + setup just for the ECU.

Thanks for the replies I've looked into it more think the only real problem is the inlet manifold and wiring like you say i will be doing all the work myself as this isn't an everyday car just a track project should hopefully keep costs down
