It's a WRX STi Uk version with factory prodrive kit, done roughly 60k. Only thing it may need is rear shocks?

Been offered it for roughly £7.5k and all I've seen seem to be going for a bit more than this?

I know it's a straight car and is in decent condition but could do with a detail.

I'd say that's about right. Lots of fear with the engine so they're eclipsed by the EJ20 Newage ones in terms of value and desirability. To put that in perspective I sold my 100k 2004 Blobeye last month for £800 less than your price. I would get a compression test done before you consider proceeding, although that's not a sure-fire way to see if the pistons or HG is on borrowed time.

Great car though. I put 50k on one from almost new with no issues at all but you should go in with your eyes open.

Insurance just paid out £8.5k on mine after it was written off couple of weeks ago, not sure if those up for sale at £10k + are actually moving.

My 07 WRX with FSSH type UK with 58k miles went for £6k last week. I'd think and STI would command a bit more than 7.5, to be honest maybe it's just a question of waiting it out.

to be fair a half decent STi on an 07 should be fetching around the mid to late 9's on a private I reckon.

I saw a Spec D with 330 claimed bhp sell on Ebay last week for around 10k, the advert looked like it was written by rent a remedial, he even said that the 2.5's were unreliable back in the 90's but not anymore!. Absolute total load of bks on the ad and if I could search for stuff that has sold I would post a link (tips anyone?).

It could be the right depending on the condition, regardless of the potential engine issues. For peace of mind (and horsepower) a top end rebuild with forged pistons, uprated ring, cosworth headgaskets and ARP headstuds should be doable for around 2K. You could do it yourself for half that if you're competent with mechanics.

The price of WRXs and STIs has gone wild over the past couple of years. I bought my 03 WRX PPP wagon 2 years ago for 3.5k. I've put nearly 30k miles on it and it's probably worth the same now as when I bought it. On one hand this is a great thing, more money out when I want to change. On the other hand, I can't think what to replace it with other than an STI of whatever flavour. Even the bugeyes are starting to go for good money, when it wasn't that long ago that they were nearing shed prices!

Good point Ohtari. I was discussing this with a mate who has a blob on an 03 plate, he said that essentially many of the STi's are now in the hands of enthusiasts, and this is also becoming true of the WRX's.

There aren't many pre hawkeye standard WRX's out there for sale, but as he said, there are plenty of dogs which will need good money thrown at them to mitigate years of abuse.

I've seen clean, 1 owner WRX blobs hitting the thick end of £6500. Also, not sure if it is me, but there seems an awful lot of WRX 300's for sale on both ebay and auto trader at the moment.

Sounds about right. I paid 10K for an STI with 20K on the clock and have subsequently had the engine forged. It's a wickedly quick car with boat loads of torque smile

In all seriousness however, its probably worth considering having 4K knocking about should the heads go, then you can get them sorted, forged pistons and decent head studs.

You can buy yourself time with the rear shocks by spraying White Lithium Grease on them. You get it from Halfords.

Not a chance... A decent set of forged pistons like Omegas are £800. Then you need machining (drop ins don't work well and rattle) and all of the other labour, plus bearings, head studs, an uprated oil pick-up (Killer B from the USA) etc...

Just for your info; as far as I'm aware "newage" can mean anything 2001 (bugeye) onward and everything before that is a classic strictly speaking. Your hawkeye is a newage.

Yep, but things have gotten rather blurred since the 07 hatchback.

Classic
Newage (Bug/Blob/Hawk)
Hatchback
Saloon
2014 (anybody came up with a name yet?)
