Bugeye clutch pedal

Hi all,

I'm after some advice, I recently bought a UK Bugeye wrx wagon, all original car and clearly been looked after all it's life. The problem I have is that i'm getting a little bit of lower back pain on my left hand side but I feel it getting worse when I push the clutch pedal down, the pedal is reasonably heavy but probably not the worst I've had. I have tried moving seat position but this makes no difference. I would also like to say I have owned an Impreza and Legacy turbo years ago and never had any issues and I have just come from a Civic type R which has a relatively light clutch.

Do you think a clutch and/or fluid change would make a difference and lighten the pedal? I still believe the car could be on it's original clutch at 98k miles as there are no reciepts or documents for any clutch change in it's life.

Any info/advice is appreciated.

Mine, new or old clutch, have never been light... Do you have a local indy you can ask?

Yeah I got the impression they have always been quite a heavy clutch. I do have couple of friends who know the cars well and own a garage so I may go and ask and see what they recommend. Maybe I'm just going soft in older age!

Mine is new and a joke. However, my other car is an auto Volvo, so it takes as while to adjust

I had a new clutch in my 03 WRX wagon and there is no difference in effort. The effort on a hydraulic clutch comes from the springs needed to hold the plates in contact at all times to prevent it slipping, so clutch effort shouldn't really change throughout its life, only the biting point will change, until it is right at the top of the pedal travel.

This would be my thought also but after BMW replaced a clutch in my old Z4 coupe the pedal was noticeably lighter which I was not expecting.

The diaphragm spring on the presure plate can get tougher through time with age and give a heavy pedal it might even be an updated clutch
