So who else on here has an RB5?

...and of those, how many are standard, and how many are WR Sports?

Considering how the RB5OC forum has long since died a death I'd be surprised if you get many responses tbh. I've always had a soft spot for them but one rarely ever sees (what looks like) a genuinely clean example for sale now. I'd be very surprised if more than 10-15% of the 444 are in good, rust-free, condition nowadays...I could be wrong though! Don't remember the last time I saw one on the road either.

I'm one of the original founders of the RB5OC. Haven't had a RB5 for years and sold my last Scooby a few years ago. Didn't keep in touch with the club but gathered it had died down.

I very much doubt that many standard RB5's exist - but then I could never talk as my RB5 was the first really big build away from standard such that there wasn't much RB5 left (#190 for those that were club members).

We had #183 for 7 years until our Spaniel came along about 6 years ago and I sold it for an Audi estate.

My wife has never forgiven me for that and I've always regretted it.

I tried to buy it back last year but the current owner had had an acrimonious split with his partner/wife and she kept the car hidden away somewhere despite him having a court order for it's return (his side of the story is all I have to go by anyway).

I'd be pretty chuffed if I could get it back but looks like a long shot frown

Here's mine.
WRSport, the only mod is 2 pots on the back, otherwise totally standard. No rust, it had a complete respray (with arches done) last year.
Love it, no plans to sell.

Number 125 here.

All of the bodywork is standard on mine but its had plenty of engine/drive train work.

It was rebuilt 3 years about and is now running the below (summarized because I can't remember everything!)

Fully Forged
Alcatek (with launch control + anti-lag)
Twin scroll VF37 (and all of the matching parts - sump/manifold etc)
Larger Injectors
RCM fuel pump
Miltek exhaust

I really like the cars character now although it sounds more like a Escort Cosworth or EVO than a Impreza.

It's just in the garage at the moment having its arches cut out and replaced and another Excedy clutch fitted. I'm mechanically sympathetic but the existing clutch started to slip since the mapping in 3rd/4th.

No. 428 still going strong - WR Sport which is standard apart from the exhaust & 6 pot APs

Not quite my daily driver but not far off it, the rear arches will need re-doing for the winter and the alloys need a refurb but apart from that it is in fine fettle. Don't think I'll ever get rid of it.

I haven't seen any on the road for years (unless you count Rallyday)

Nice to see so many hanging about. I nearly bought one a few years back but it was a bit too far gone to ever be considered a cherished car.

From new? Imprezas weren't sold with tinted lights, only the standard ones and the detangord STI ones.

It looks like they were sprayed with tinting spray.

But Subaru did not fit tinted lenses to cars. You know that.

I know you know I know that. They also didn't fit leather seats, but Zippy has them in his, from new. I know mine was first bought by someone on sales at the dealer in Pangbourne (don't know if that is still there), I also know it has had them from new.
Someone tried telling me other day that my new one shouldn't have Dunlop tyres on it, they should be bridgestone. You can't argue with an idiot, so I smiled and agreed. It had 5 miles on the clock when I picked it up, and all the pictures in the shiny brochure show Dunlop's.

Here's my old RB5, #287 reg T871AJO

There can't be many of these great cars left on the road now, how many in 10 years time?

A genuine future classic.

Technically if it wasn't fitted by the factory (or supplied as dealer fit by the factory), then it isn't from new.

Someone might have modified/altered a new car, either before or after it was registered. But that's not really the same thing.

Technically, you are right, and I'm bored of arguing. All I said was they were on it from new, and I like them.
