Hi all

in need of some help !

unfortunately the clamp that holds the two impellers on my turbo has broke, and therefore ruined the internals frown

just wondering if anyone has a turbo for sale or knows of one ? only found 1 or 2 online so far

turbo is : IHI VF28, used in V5&6 TYPE R'S & the P1

any help is hugely appreciated !! also does anyone know the going rate for one of these ?

thanks smile

cheers for the reply, V8250

do you think think would be the best route to take ? a straight swap ?

i assume without a refurbished unit i run the risk of that being knackered ?

never had a turbo car before, so this is new to me

Most turbos benefit from careful running down and regular oil changes - even if run on fully synth.

Problem with secondhand is you can't guarantee use or more significantly mis-use.
I would be looking to buy a re-furbed one from the likes of Turbo Technics.
They may take your old one in part-ex though if it's grenaded it's likely to be scrap.
With an re-furbed unit from them at least you can be fairly confident your money isn't going to be wasted.
If you are fitting replacement yourself follow their fitting instructions carefully partic. ensuring oil is properly run through the turbo before start-up.
HTH.
Cheers, Pewe.

Usually lots on Scoobynet.

A recon unit from a reputable specialist (Turbo Technics, CR Turbos, Owen Developments etc) will be between £4-500. Should come with a year's guarantee at least.

thank you Teknopug

don't know why i didn't think of Scoobynet !

seem to be going for around £250.00 on there, but sell so fast!

I have plans to 'upgrade' in the future, but for now just want to be able to drive the thing, hence i'm being 'cheap'

thank's for your help everyone ! smile

OP, as others have said, only buy a correctly re-furbished or new turbo. To be frank, you'll be pissing money away with second hand units as you never know when it will fail. And, it's not the turbo cost that's expensive...it's the change over process that's a pain to do. So, there a some things one should never 'nickel-and-dime' with...turbos are one of them.

I'm no expert on turbos but they are subject to use and abuse. It would be a major PITA to go through the considerable labour of changing one (or worse still pay a man) only to discover that the used one you have bought as "honest bruv, it's pukka, clean as a whistle, only coming off 'cos the chassis failed on the test, dinnit, swhy I'm breaking it, engine's great, turbo bang on, went like hell" turns out to be no better than what you are taking off. Of course, you may get lucky. So your choice seems to be £250 for a used item that *might* work and a guaranteed recon exchange job at £500. I know what I'd choose, painful as it is. Good luck.
