I take it the car is a turbo?

In theory it should improve fuel consumption. Manufacturers will map cars conservatively running a bit rich with less ignition advance to allow for crap fuel etc. When you remap you advance the ignition a bit and usually run the engine a bit leaner.

Should improve. Leaner burn as mentioned (= more power) More torque/power, quicker acceleration, less time spent at high revs etc.

I haven't had a before and after as the last one I had was mapped when I bought it but I've seen far better results than other owners. It's a no-brainer if you ask me.

As explained above, a good remap will be set up to run leaner than an OE set up, so when not using full throttle you should get better fuel economy.
My WRX got about 23mpg average overall before the remap, but now it is producing 265bhp, it is getting an average of 26-27mpg.

My father had his 03 STi remapped last year - previous average on the PPP (305/300) map was 22/23mpg, after remap easily seeing 28/29mpg running a nice 330/330 (with much better drive ability and boost characteristics).

Cheers for replies , Well I am going to get it mapped just need to get the cash together , only a mild map , air filter is done , mid section is already a straight through and back box is a sport one , fuel pressure is good and I know they say the pump is a weakness but I don't believe in changing what's not broken , I have a spare pump which I will fit when it does need changing

With the fuel pump, they don't generally stop working, rather their performance reduces over time. So where it may originally have flowed X, it now only flows X-Y.

Personally, I'd just fit one as a matter of preventative maintenance. They aren't very expensive and are easy to fit.

I'd change the fuel pump as a matter of course. Both are most recent Impreza's had HRC fuel pumps fitted, better quality than the old Walbro and pretty cheap at about £70.

That's not a lot of money for peace of mind when a remap will cost you £550 (Ecutek).

Who are you planning to get remapping your car?

Hi I can understand your logic re the pump , my Foz sti was mapped but I never paid any notice to mpg before and after so nothing to compare it too , it's on origonal pump after a map ,130 k miles on the clock , and I have now bought a fuel pressure tester which I will do in and off , the two people I know of in the herts area is Richard at FB tuning or a chap called Paul previously from PTS in Luton , now Xmas is out of the way and pay day due it's time to get it sorted at last I'm sure it will be a good way to go forward

Everybody has their recommendation for mappers, I've heard of FB Tuning but not sure if the other you refer to is Paul Blamire?

I'd give Bob Rawle a shout as he's mapped my cars for years and I won't have anyone else touch them; likewise, there are some seemingly very busy mappers who I wouldn't let remap a Dyson, but it's a personal choice.

Hi I'm not sure what Paul's surname is , he mapped the forester and knows his stuff , any other tuners in the herts area ? The only down side of Paul he is often very busy but on a plus side if he's busy he must know what he's doing

Can't help you with Hertfordshire. I know Bob travels worldwide to map so I doubt Hertfordshire would be an issue if you wanted to go down that route.

I know my dad was sceptical of replacing the PPP with a custom map, but was over the moon once he'd had the car mapped - and it's a peach to drive as a fast road car (I find that much more preferable to big power these days).

I bought it to save money on mpg , 17 mpg ish before was the reason why , so if it will help with mpg and more punch then it's a no brainer to get it done at 325£

All my Impreza's had better MPG after the remap... My current car does just over 30MPG on a run at 70MPH (according to a scan gauge).

Sounds like their are potentially other issues afoot or you are caning it everywhere (or you live in central London).

Paul B no longer maps commercially, and never worked at PTS so not sure its the same one

You won't go wrong with Bob Rawle or Rich at FB

Remap finally done , a bit more punch in all the gears , he said fuel pump was doing fine as it was , time to see if the mpg improves now too , the boost is now up to 1.45 bar form around 1.3
