I know this has probably been covered elsewhere but I've searched and after reading 10 threads over 3 forums I'm still curious :P

Just about to get my 05 WRX remapped and I'm curious as to what returns I will get.

It has had a few bits done:

PPP
Hayward and Scott exhaust
Gates Racing timing belt

I realise I'm not gonna get massive amounts of extra power and the main benefit will be getting boost sooner but would any of you learned gents like to estimate what I might be looking at?

Cheers

30 to 40 Bhp , but it's the torque that makes the difference you will get a lot more grunt , the wrx are not massively strong in the gearbox department but a sensible map will work well and be mechanically sympathetic

Depends on whether its a full decat or partial decat, but anywhere from 270 to 290bhp.

Ps, best to do the fuel pump and an uprgaded panel filter too

Hi if mapping then yes pump and panel filter needed car is I assume 2 litre so standard is 225bhp ? , so sensible tune 250 255 Bhp , but as above its the torque you will notice

For the sake of the £60 it costs to get a new pump, just do it. It's a half hour job to replace and definitely a good idea to do, if only for the security of more redundancy in the system. You don't want it to be failing on you at full boost, your engine really won't appreciate it. Go for a performance panel filter too while you're there as it really helps free up breathing (if you haven't already done so).

By PPP do you mean the sports cat, or a full decat? If you've got rid of the catted up-pipe and have a decent sports cat (or decat) then you should be able to see 280-290bhp reasonably easily. I'm decatted, running a 290lph fuel pump, a K&N panel and a PPP backbox and from memory peaked at 295bhp/297lb.ft using opensoure from Andy Forrest. Oh, and go for the slightly cooler PFR7B plugs too (another £35 or so).

For comparison.

My car is a 53 plate WRX on 96k. Panel filter, Prodrive exhaust, upgraded fuel pump and a very 'conservative/safe' remap saw 260bhp.

I mean this in the nicest way as a fellow ph-er...

You've come looking for specific advice on remapping an already PPP'd Wrx and received some very helpful and we'll informed advice. This is one time when a gut feel of "i'll be alright" might not be right, I'd be going for the fuel pump too if I were you! biggrin

Running the standard fuel pump much harder has resulted in many engines having bad days out. It's for this reason nearly all tuners recommend an uprated fuel pump to support the mods. It's cheap but not doing it could get very expensive.

I'm running a RCM fuel pump on my car.

The ppp from prodrive I think was a fuel pump change and that's a conservative tune , Sti pumps produce more fuel , wrx will not pump as much so it's worth a change of pump

No change to the fuel pump on the wrx, just the STI (early bugs as they had a crappy pump that couldnt take the extra 40ps...) otherwise, look at around the 280bhp mark on a remap, some do a little better, some a little worse, but thats about the max the turbo can do.

even the PPP Sti's usually need a new pump , as 9/10 times the pumps are fked.

And if the car has a Walboro thats over 4 years old, change that too, as they only seem to last that long.

The garage I take my car to has said exactly the same. He encourages me to change the fuel pump every 3 years and definitely no longer than every 5 years.

He also recommend I change the walboro for a RCM pump last time.

The RCM pumps are very good, and not that expensive

Wow, remind me not to go there!
Unless you have substantially modified your car, the standard fuel pump will be hood for 100k+, which is exactly how long they should last, if you have to replace one every 3 years then you are either getting ripped off or are using such a low grade pump you are throwing money down the drain.

If you wamt a hood reliable pump on a standard car or even a modified one, dont put a warlbro on there, put a bosch one in instead.

Perhaps you shouldn't go to most of the tuners then? Replacing old pumps isn't exactly uncommon advice.

Also 100k+ on a standard pump a modified car? I'm certainly glad you don't look after my car! hehe

I would agree the bosch pumps are very good though.
