It looks like I've ruined at least one piston (see earlier posts), so the engine is officially dead

However, what had started out as frustration and a gnashing of teeth has turned into my usual inspiration and motivation to do something different, and I am enjoying the challenge of working out an engineering solution almost as much as I'd enjoyed the idea of blatting about in the car this summer

So where am I now?

The stock engine is dead, no question.

What am I going to do about it?

Whip the engine out and sell the supercharger 'kit'. This should mean that everything (bar the ECU) should be available for someone else to simply bolt onto their MK2.5 and go, making it a VERY easy job for someone. Just not sure what to price it at, but that's not important here and now

My plan, if it can be called that.

1UZ-FE engine
4.0 V8 toyota lump which I know will physically fit (with some work)
But what to do about the gearbox?
I can find adapter plates for the 1UZ-FE to mate to the RX8 gearbox, and digging deeper suggests that the 6speed RX8 gearbox and the gearbox in my MX5 are both Aisin AZ6 units. On the face of it, the differences are bell housing and that the MX5 has a speedo pickup in the gearbox. Even the ratios are nigh on identical

SOOOooo....

I'm going to look at seeing if it's possible to sort out an RX8 bell housing onto the MX5 box, adapter plate, and get a flywheel fabricated to suit (as the 1UZFE was only ever available as an auto afaik)

While I'm at it, it'll give me a chance to do the front chassis arms and maybe some other bits and pieces as well as generally tidy the engine bay

I don't expect this to be a quick or easy job, but I'll keep this thread updated.

First thing I need to do is clear a bit of space in the workshop to fit the engine stand in so I can get around it, and then extricate the TiG so I can wheel it out to the car (most of the welding I do is on smaller components so I can take them to the welder, rather than vice versa)

What could possibly go wrong? smile
