Mk 1 door lock problem.

My sons mk1 mx5 drivers door lock wouldn't open by key . He managed to climb in passenger side and get the doior card off and open the door . It appears the spring has broken. He's bought a replacement and I am asking if anyone has undertaken this repair?
Any advice welcome.

If he's already got the door card off then he's done the hardest part. I had the same problem with mine a few months back. I've included some pictures of the repair on my build thread (about half way down)

I found it easiest to manually pull the release catch to open the door, attach the spring to the side nearest to you first; hold it in place with your thumb, and use your middle finger to pull the release catch towards you and wiggle the spring in place without trying to stretch it.
