It sounds a lot better! Not boomy, lovely burble on tick over and around 4K revs is wonderful. Very happy with this. Thanks again guys for all the info. Also seems to pull better from low revs but that must be in my head I guess.
Is there any drone at all with the straight through centre? I'm considering the same system for my 2.5xt but don't want it to be too noisy inside - is it much louder than a Prodrive system for example?

I've never heard the pro drive system so unsure, my standard Sti exhaust was basically silent. I noticed the spare wheel area is surrounded by dynamat which I assume isn't standard?

I haven't taken it on the motorway yet but it's definitely not a drone: with the windows up you have to listen for the exhaust it's very quiet.

based on an impreza prodrive rear box , if you take out the centre silencer noise will be up by about 20 to 30 per cent but as prodive tends to be quite quiet then it should not be too loud , car will benefit by doing it , and it will sound a lot better as it's supposed to , one of my fsti is a bit loud but that's a back box issue , it went from too quiet with too mid section silencers to a bit too loud but liveable

The exhaust is completely standard at the minute. I'm planning a cat-back upgrade then remap. It sounds like from what you have said that if I go H&S straight through 2.5" centre and matching 2.5" backbox it may be a bit too loud for my liking, which is what I suspected.

H&S have offered to alter the backbox over the 'off the shelf' system to make it more livable day to day (add another small silencer I think), a mod they say they do for quite a few Forester customers. It sounds like this may be the way to go.

I have the slightly odd combo of 2.5" straight-through downpipe and centre section (no cats, no resonators) and the reasonably quiet Prodrive backbox on my Impreza 2.5 STi. It works really well, sounds sporty but not loud (I really really didn't want a loud car), and this combo maxed out at around 340-350bhp with 400lb-ft during mapping.

acceptable noise like suspension is a bit of a personal choice as to how loud or how bumpy , normal cat centre pipe delete and an hks back box is where i want to be on one car and sounds very good , impreza standard cat delete centre sports back box find it a bit quiet , so i would start noisy option and work back from there as you can always change it at not that much cost , a free flowing system does improve things
