Little update

Bit of time spent on it today.

I started the process of polishing the manifold

Removed front hubs, suspension and wheels

and fitted replacements

coming along nicely there Simon. what suspension are you running? also from the pics it looks like you have cast manifolds with simple 2 inch feed pipes to the turbos. any plans on running tubular headers?

Headers are tubular

From 3 cylinders on one bank to a collector and then to uppipe to turbo, same on each side.

Suspension is tein super street coil overs with edfc smile

What looks cast is the tubular front frame which has surface rust on at minute

Looks really nice Si. Dose the engine sit quite high? the headers look to come verticaly down alot. Also are you going to be coating/wraping the headers/up pipes?

Engine is sat on standard engine mounts and subframe.
This pic is on very low suspension and angle makes bottom tube look a lot lower than it is but you can see engine is not high no

Will be wrapped, played with coatings before but never last.

8000+ rpm

Basically the block is being pinned so will be like a closed deck block, same as the ej22t but with two extra cylinders.
Using forged pistons that are normally used in a 2.35litre build and have custom rods to allow that with the standard throw crank which is same as 2.2 and 2litre etc
Cams are being machined from billet blanks as the orignals wont take a wild enough profile, valves and valve train is replaced with supertec valves and double springs and new buckets and springs which is probably similar price to the cage install lol eek just on the heads.
Will be interesting as in effect it is two 1650cc engines spooling a 350bhp turbo so it maybe very laggy and need to play with uppipe diameters or it might not as the off boost 3.3 should be reasonable.
Other option is of course to revert to a single turbo gt42rs for example, but the engine just lays out asking for twin

HAHA Simon you just reading through that you seem to answer every qyuestion i was thinking about! lol. I hope the twin turbo setup works! however it would also be nice to seea GT42 strapped on there! smile If you have 8Krpm to work with then you should beable to get a 42 spooled and still have loads of RPM leftto actualyl use it. Are there any strocker cranks avaliable? Be nice to see what this unit sould be streched to. Also I have heardof guys in the US re-sleaving the blocks and pushing upto 2.8ltr out of the 4pots. Could something similar be done on this engine? Just thinking a 4ltr falt 6 would be pretty intresting! and you wouldn't have to worry about spooling them little trubos! lol

Thanks,

Chris.

Very rare do I see a relinered block without issues of some sort of having to resurfaced after a period of time as the liners settle and move.

Hence on the 4pot the ej22t block is the winner. Hoping with block pinned it should be okay as liners are fairly thick.

There has been stroker cranks made but they are billet and very expensive, if thise engine works well then I may build another bottom end with a billet crank.
I dont like to assume this engine and setup will work as I want until I have it working etc.

Insane build! Aren't Tein Superstreets and K-Sport brakes a bit low end for something like this?

I think people spend far to much on bling bits of kit and assume they do a better job.. the tein are actually pretty good and the ksports work.

I have considered and have a set of AP4 pot setup which I am hoping will work as well but gain on the weight saving.

I like the Exetc suspension but they only do the track stuff now and this car will be used on the road and the road dirt and road use will kill the exetc stuff.

In an ideal world I would have a couple of sets of brakes, wheel, suspension and change for the application the car is going to do but this is more a bit of fun and enjoyment for me so if I lose a few seconds off a sprint lap so be it.. etc
should I get focused on doing something then I might change the setup to suit and go chasing something be it sprint or drag etc..

Going to be interesting to see the influence the extra weight at the front has on the handling... I am not colin mcrae and I may not even notice smile
