Well, no mention has been made of the cone-shaped object, so I'm assuming it is just a rock.
Until NASA release their panos, here's a stitch I've done of the two full-res navcam images we have so far:
The good news is the Mastcam is now deployed and everything is working as it should so we may see a high res panorama in a day or so from now.

Good work!

That's great Freddy, your image stitches are better than the Nasa ones! The actual definition in the image is very good, even from the Navcams, which bodes well for the colour images we'll get from Mastcam.
I'm interested in the stereo capability, the red/green ones are ok but polarised versions would look great; I wonder if the navigation software makes use of stereo images to identify nearby obstacles...?
Well, with two cameras they can range-find at the very least but I'd be surprised if they haven't worked that into the navigation software. They've got a great landing site there and they've already established there are no obstacles around or beneath Curiosity, so they won't delay things when it's finally time for a little drive around to see what's what.I'm interested in the stereo capability, the red/green ones are ok but polarised versions would look great; I wonder if the navigation software makes use of stereo images to identify nearby obstacles...?

As you may have gathered, being an over-excited geek I can't wait for NASA to do their stuff, so I've taken some more raw images and stitched this together:
Nice work Fred, where are geting these pics from? (or did I miss the explanation?) NASA are only dripping them out slowly as far as I can find.scubadude said:

He is there taking the photos. Interestingly the connection from Mars is more reliable, and faster than browsing PH from a mobile. The raw images are available here as and when NASA decide to release them:

So far, they have waited until after each mission update news briefing before uploading them to their website and any images requiring manipulation (like panos) take a bit longer, hence my impatient alter-ego doing the work as soon as full res raw images have been released.
The next news briefing will be broadcast on NASA TV live at 7pm UK time and I expect more images will be released then. These are pretty interesting broadcasts and the journalists actually ask quite intelligent questions sometimes (no-one's there from the Daily Mail AFAIK) so I'd recommend taking a look and in between Curiosity news they have other live events, such as the live broadcast from the ISS taking place now (all in Japanese though as it's for Japanese schoolkids).
