Apologies if it is a repost, I did do a search for robot!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19506130

It's probably not very politically correct, but I'd love my mates who have been/are in Afghan getting shot at to have one of these to send back in the other direction, preferably with the "teeth" and temperament of something akin to a sabre-tooth tiger who's just been prodded with a sharp stick. Having a faceless person return fire is one thing, having one of those come after you at 20mph+ would put you off doing it again a bit more I imagine.

Confusing title, Op.

I was expecting a chavy story about someone dressed in tin foil trying to enter Robot Wars, only to have his legs brutally and bloodily hacked off by hypno-disc. Shame frown

'Cheetah War Robot' might have worked better.

I would say 10 years from when these are first used in combat to being used by the police in our towns, just like the drones

Not only a death dealing killer cheetah robot from hell, but a headless death dealing killer cheetah robot from hell. That's pretty bad.

This thing is running by itself now with a 2 stroke engine instead of the cables to power it.

They have a robot dog that troops can use for load carrying, controlled by a Playstation type unit.

It is, also a bit Ravage from Transformers.

More like this at the moment

How long until they make this?

They can make this, BigDog, bipedal stuff now too http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/04/boston-dynamics...

This is the mk1 stuff, when they get around to their 'next gen'...

SkyNet.

Given the nature of the company and the people who fund it I would suggest that whilst this might well be Mk1 stuff in reality they are just about to start on Mk3...

Public reveal is always a year or two (if not more) behind from what i have observed.

Boston dynamics have been doing some very cool stuff. A mk2 big dog has just been comissioned that will be bullet proof and 'stealthy'. Presumably they mean quiet!

Really love the vids of big dog being pushed around and recovering itself. The movements are uncanny. When I was first shown the videos about 10 years ago, I took some convincing that this was real robotics and not cgi.

rofl Brilliant, not stealthy though. It'll be like assaulting somewhere followed by a group of chavs.

Is it wrong I want to put a saddle on that and use it to commute on?
Just sat there at the traffic lights and give a nod to the guy in the Focus alongside hehe
