I always thought 'Warp 9' was 9x speed of light...
It must be an equivalent. IE I'm going to scrunch up this bit of space so much that I can get through it at sub light speed but to an outside observer it will SEEM to be 9c'
Who sends these outside observers anyway?!

GV, I don't think we are talking about time travel though are we but rather warp travel which is something different surely? I understand adding\removing energy is a big no-no in our perfect Cosmos but we aren't talking about adding\removing anything. I thought warp travel in the classic sci-fi sense was using things like the curvature of space and string theory to in effect connect two very distant points so that they are touching or much closer together? I can't remember the details of it but I am sure I saw a documentary years ago which stated this might mathematically possible.

I have no idea what 'warp' travel is other than Alcubirres and I've explained that already. If you believe there are just 4 dimension, 10, 11, 23 or any of the multivarious combinations, then you and I are travelling in or on them now.
One thing that is little appreciated outside my discipline is that with every advance we make we also cut off other avenues of thought that seemed possible until something quite minor is revealed, I would say that with every minor discovery or exactitude we lose twenty or more avenues to explore as that tiny bit of new info kills even the remotest possibility of being viable.
The reality could well be that any additional dimensions beyond the 3 of 'space' are simply point dimensions, time certainly is, and as such manipulation is not possible.
