When I was a kid there was a science programme on that talked about a googleplex. Still remember it clearly to this day.

there should be more educational telly on. not just an ex pop star having 30 second segments in every country on the planet.

Just thought I'd add this little factoid in to this thread as an example of the other end of the scale .....

If you were to scale up a single hydrogen atom so that it was the size of the observable universe, a string loop* would only be the size of a tree.

  • string loops are the components of string theory.

It took me a while to visualize that, well not visualize but just get my head around the concept of the size and scale of things involved.

Source of factoid is a youtube vid:

Fascinating subject. I watched a similar program a while back that said a googleplex is such a big number, that it is larger than all the atoms in the known universe.
It's even crazier than that. A plain old Googol is greater than the number of atoms in the Universe (10^100 is a Googol, and there are around 10^80 atoms in the Universe), and a Googolplex ( 10^(10^100) ) is so big that you couldn't write its zeros on all the atoms in the known Universe!!
