Personally I would stay away from the zooms having tried one and not liked it, can't remember what it was though! A couple of years back I upgraded my Plossls to pretty much the whole Televue Plossl range, overkill, but they look nice and perform VERY well.

For widefield (300mm newt, f5) I use a Williams Optics 16mm UWAN that has served me well on deep sky objects.

You were right, the Nirvana's do look like re-badged W/O UWAN.
