But The Scientists are saying they've picked up a mystery radio signal, "alien" in origin (i.e not man made, but lets be honest, probably not from little green men), heard live for the first time. Probably from a black hole or something similar.

I think you've just picked it up wrong. Are radio waves not bound by C?
The refrence to decades was in relation to when they generally pick these waves up after they have occurred, from sifting through old data. In this instance they caught them in the act.

If a civilization were 65million light years away and looking at is, they would see Dinosaurs! Does that mean the radio waves were produced by a civilization 5.5 billion LYs more advanced then us? Maybe they have been trying to establish contact and this is he first time our tech is advanced enough to pick not up! :winkysmily:

Imo yelling into space saying "look over here!" Is the equivalent to waving about in the jungle in the vague hope that everything you meet is cuddly and nice, not poisonous, agressive and bitey.
As a species, man is extremely arrogant - natural as we're the ones in charge of the world. We even assume we can control the weather. The assumption that any alien species would be nice and friendly / not as clever as us / wouldn't come and experiment / bully us / fancy the look of our resources is just daft.
