I was stood outside in Essex in 1999, using a welding mask to look at the eclipse. The mask was too dark. I couldn't see anything through it.
It was nighttime?

There was an 'expert' on the radio yesterday pointing out that welding masks are no good as as the most dangerous radiation is in the ultraviolet region. Clearly someone who doesn't know the first thing about arc/mig/tig welding.
I think they think welding masks are just really dark sunglasses.I remember using a bit of an old broken welding mask in 99 and it was perfect. But greeny tinted.
