I'm pretty sure that's not the conclusion at all.

In fact, it's not that they believe anything, it's that they believe NOTHING they are told if the person imparting the information is from an authorative source e.g a government.

If the source is some other conspiracy nutter - then they WILL believe.

I must admit I started doubting everything the Govt said when New Labour came to power. Invariably they gave one reason for something but a moment's logic proved it to be something else.

Whilst on the subject, although the King of Spin has gone, I see the referendum on the EU will be 'Should we remain in the EU?'. In other words, YES maintains the status quo/keeps us in the EU. I suspect that phrasing the question the other way - 'Should we leave the EU?' - would make about 10% difference in voting. People like to vote 'yes'.

Which is of course why they rigged it that way.

Although having the advantage of the 'yes' vote didn't help the SNP in Scotland.

Of course, Oscar Wilde had the jump on this 'research' more than a hundred years ago :

"The old believe everything; the middle-aged suspect everything; the young know everything."

Phrases and Philosophies for the Use of the Young (1894)
