UFO - What Did I See?

Hey I saw a UFO yesterday.

Well I couldn't identify it and it was flying at least. This is a serious topic for Eric and others.
Whilst driving to the office yesterday at about 8.15 am, I glanced over to my right and saw what I thought was a plane glinting in the sun. To set the scene, its a glorious clear frosty morning, to my right is the rising sun and several other aeroplanes leaving contrails (should I call them chemtrails for this thread
). I was sat in a short queue for a junction and had the time to have a proper look at the shiny object. As I was watching it, I noticed another plane that was either in front or behind it, but close in line of vision terms and that got me wondering how one could have a contrail and the other not. All of the contrails were short that morning (perhaps you could explain why they vary in length dependant on weather conditions), but the shiny object had none and was moving at right angles to the other plane. After about 30secs, it stopped shining then faded from view completely, was this possibly some kind of satellite or a smaller and lower altitude aeroplane than the other passenger jets visible? Your thoughts are welcome.

What I saw was odd, but at the same time, quite fun to see. It was definitely a group of UFO's. Aliens? Maybe. Maybe not. There are so many things being tested by the military etc. that we don't hear about until years later.

Contrails will form at different heights. They will not appear above or below the contrail height - which varies from day to day depending on weather conditions. What you saw was most likely an aircraft above or below the trailing altitude.
Watch this rocket launch video and see how the rocket exhaust forms a contrail as it passes through the trailing layer - and then see how the trail stops as the rocket climbs above the trailing layer.

It was interesting to observe and to extrapolate from that how people could get all woo woo about it
I love watching rocket launches where you can see the contrail form - and then fade out. You can only see the phenomenon when -
a) the atmospheric conditions allow
b) the sky is clear (naturally)
and
c) when the rocket does not make use of Solid Rocket Boosters. The dense smoke from the exhaust of solid rockets completely drowns out any water vapour contrails that might have formed from the liquid fueled engines. That's why you never saw water vapour contrails from the Space Shuttle.

Red dot moving steadily at the speed of a passing satellite but able to change direction.
That strikes me of an airplane in the sky rather than an alien spacecraft.
If not a commercial plane then likely military heading up to patrol the North Sea to meet the Russians for a bit of a conflab.
