I'm not one for getting maudlin and i'm not seeking to glorify what happened in this unspeakable tragedy, but I can't help but be impressed and a little overwhelmed by the reconstruction and effort that has gone into piecing together not only large parts of the plane but also the animations - however shocking are imho a testimony to science and perseverance.

I guess it would be far to idealistic to hope that this might actually do "something" to limit the use of such weapons. I'm pretty certain however that there is about as much chance of that as I have of playing the harpsichord.

joking apart i can't help but be entirely impressed by the investigation and reconstructions however sombre the circumstances.

It seems to me though that a bunch of clever people with a desire to seek the truth insofar as certain conjectures allow have done a fantastic piece of work.

What they did is fairly common practice for large aircraft accidents. The technique was started by accident investigators based in Farnborough in the 1940s. It's first really dramatic impact on air safety was during the investigation into the Comet disasters in 1953/54.

Well it's not quite as as clever as a Russian arms dealer with strong ties to the government detonating a missile on a step ladder next to a mock up plane, in an effort to debunk many of the findings.

I don't know about you comrades, but I no longer feel Russia was involved in anyway way.

YEs they got both recorders back.

From what Ive read they both stop without showing anything, the voice recorders didn't even pickup anything, which points towards their findings that the missile blew up next to the cockpit destroying it before anyone knew what was happening.

Or the Ruskies nobbled them? Not that I'm a conspiracist, but I seem to recall a period where they went missing.

Soooo who then? Russian rebels or Ukrainian rebels?

if not the "official" armies of either country, then what options are there?

This is interesting in regards to MH17 , slightly off topic

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/10/15/t...

Think it's a lot of baloney but the reason I post it here is due to one of the reasons the Mary Celeste was assumed abandoned all those years back.... fumes from the cargo hold.

I like this sort of science regurgitation to explain things unexplained whilst connecting historic events. Cool....

There was a high pitched sound from outside the aircraft apparently on one of them, but I still reading through the report and not got to that part. It mentions it in their accompanying report which is smaller.

I thought that it said in a BBC report that, by comparing the timing differences in the recordings fron three microphones on the flight deck, the investigators were able to work out where the the blast was in relation to the aircraft.

Russian backed rebels, probably using equipment supplied by Russia (it appears the BUk launches were tracked moving to the area) with some rudimentary training of the rebels thrown in by Russian specialists.

I watched the full report. There was four separate cockpit voice recordings. They picked up the missile exploding and they also used the time differences in the recordings to work out that the explosion was to the left of the cockpit.
There is some clever people involved in aircraft accident investigation and without doubt, what is presented is fact.

Occam’s Razor.

I also can't think of anything more grotesque than an arms manufacturer making a video of one of their warheads exploding next to the mockup of a downed airliner.

Really just fk off you guilty commie s.

And you to Vlad.

Said video above.

Not sure what it proves given this explosion was on an unpressurised chopped of bit of aircraft and on the ground where the damage pattern would be different.

They used an old Ilyushin 86 cockpit - which may have very different strength characteristics compared to a Boeing 777.

Same as anyone else I can only speculate.

Arms manufacturers do not typically carry out demonstrations of their weaponry to attempt to exonerate their clients however. Even if they are stake holders. So its either a complete fk up as it breeds increased speculation, or it is something much more sinister.

That said anything is possible.

Obviously the news conference today http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-37495067

Also videos from the JIT - #2 & #3 in particular shows some quite impressive detective work.

3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sf6gJ8NDhYA

Not quite sure how the Russians can still be denying an involvement in this...

Russians are often pathological liars, that's why. They'll even believe their own lies and convince themselves their country men couldn't have done it and it's all just a big foreign plot.

Impressive detective work there by the team.

what would be the difference thou between America making up stories about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. At the end of the day they are all as bad as each other.

Iran Air Flight 655 shot down by America took them 8 years to reach an agreement and never admitted guilt.
