Great to see them all back OK.
His re-entry was a little fraught and then he had to eject from the capsule and drift down on a parachute from around 24,000 ft.
There was no one there immediately and he had time to walk to a nearby farm for help and a drink of milk.

Landing was 8km off target - which is not unusual and doesn't matter too much.
Poor old Yuri Gagarin landed about 300km from his planned landing site. His re-entry was a little fraught and then he had to eject from the capsule and drift down on a parachute from around 24,000 ft.

All the Vostok spacemen (and one woman) ejected during descent. His re-entry was a little fraught and then he had to eject from the capsule and drift down on a parachute from around 24,000 ft.

The Russians have had much worse off target landings. Read up on what happened with Voshkod 2 for example.
Did Voshkod 1 not have the landing rocket system? It must have been a very hard landing for the three chaps on board.
Regarding the Vostok ejection system, for 30 years the Russians lied that Gagarin had stayed in the capsule all the way to the ground. They were worried that the altitude and speed records they were claiming would not be given to them if they admitted that the cosmonaut had to bail out before landing.
