We've spotted a rather bright spec from about 4pm today, when the rest of the sky is clear. It hasn't moved and is now 5:08pm, it's still the only visable "star" - I've just been on spotthestation.nasa.gov and it turns out the ISS is currently visable in my location.

Is this actually the station?

Quite interesting.

The ISS moves pretty fast, crosses the sky in a few minutes. If what you see is to the South and slightly West it's probably Venus.

So I'm guessing that what I'm seeing isn't the ISS? I did notice on that website, that the time visable is roughly two minutes, after I first posted.

This bright spec is still there, hasn't moved position (I don't think) in the hour we've noticed it.

You email crossed with my edit. I've just had a look and I reckon it's Venus.

ISS moves fast across the sky, looks similar to an airliner at cruise altitude

That's still quite cool smile It's just this minute disappeared thanks to cloud cover.

The next decently visible ISS pass over the south of England is 06:35 tomorrow

And here I was wondering if you need a Visa to get on the ISS biggrin

It's Venus.

It has been very bright over the past few weeks and will remain so for a few more weeks.

The ISS is as bright as Venus, but, as has been explained previously, moves quite quickly across the sky.

There's Windows, iOS and Android apps that'll tell you what's up there & track the ISS as well.

E.g.

I was waiting for someone to pick up on that mistake hehe I can't edit the title though.

And thanks for that link, I'm determined to try and view it pass now.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen it yet, the ISS will be making some nice bright passes over the UK during July and August.

Here it is last night.

Hopefully we'll get a clearer night tomorrow as I'm trying to get a shot of the ISS with another satellite crossing around the same time, which happens every now and then.

Saw it on Monday night, perfect cloudless sky down in Devon, very bright.

I suspect most here who are interested have already signed up, but registering and setting a location at http://www.heavens-above.com gives a very handy table of satellite passes, including the ISS.

Not much chance for this evening though - I'm in the middle of light-polluted Bracknell, and the weather is pants....
