We are going to upgrade our TV to a 43 (ish) inch TV. I would like 55 but she says no it's far too big for the room and I somewhat agree (No, we are not council!).

But there are some older HD TV's floating about rather than 4K ones. But is the picture quality any better? I know the resolution playing back would be the same but then again as it is capable of a higher one then perhaps the lower one would be? Hope that makes sense!

Like to point out that it will only be used for HD content via Freesat.

If all your going to watch is HD, there's no real point in getting a 4K set.

And no point in having 4k unless you have one with HDR - HDR is the feature that really ups the picture quality, 4k on it's own has a marginal effect on PQ.

You need to tell us how far from the telly you sit, and how much you're willing to spend. At 43", you'll need to sit closer than about 3 metres to make a 4K telly worthwhile. As above, HDR only, so that means none of the very cheap 4K models.

Do you have fast broadband? You'll need that if you want to watch 4K films over the net. A 4K disc player is really the only way to watch real 4K as I think the films on the net are compressed.

I'm guessing that you'd be better off buying a decent 1080 telly.

At 43 inch a good 1080p set will be best. I'd say the same at 55, but even at very large sizes contrast and colours are the most important aspects of picture quality, I used to watch 1080p on an 85inch PJ screen and the detail was amazing. 1080p is really, really good.
