Console for driving games - complete newbie
Discussion
Hi
I've found myself my time on my hands whilst having medical treatment.
I've thought of getting a games console to play driving games (I don't really see myself playing other sort of games) but this is something I have absolutely no experience of.
PS4 or XBox?
steering wheel? What sort?
(Years ago I played Colin McRae rally on on a PC and had to get a steering wheel - pressing buttons to steer was just too alien)
and what games to get - nothing too hard!
Any other advice - I'm looking for diversion and entertainment without having to spend a long time getting to grips with either the technology or the game.

PS4 has Drive Club, XBox has Forza/Forza Horizon. Pretty much everything else so far released is multi-format.
If it's just for driving games I'd say the XBox wins out for Forza Horizon 3 alone.
A wheel is very much personal preference, but Forza in particular plays really nicely on the pad, so it's not a necessity by any means.
Project Cars, F1 2017, Dirt Rally (although that's fairly hardcore) are all very solid current gen driving games available on both systems.

Depends what you want, realistic or more fun orientated also known as Sim and Arcade. Some games do both.
If it's arcade then normally a controller will do you. Sim is much more realistic on a wheel.
Be aware wheels are not cross compatible a PS4 wheel won't work with a xbox.
PS4 gives the opportunity to go VR and most of the hardcore simulators are cross platform.
Of course the proper answer is PC especially for the hardcore sims.

As someone says above, if you want an arcade style game then a console will be great; GT, Forza etc all play very well and are highly rated. This isn't intended to sound snobby, but I find after years of sims and real racing that games like GT and Forza confuse me as the cars do things that real cars don't do. If you're after sims, then they still tend to live on the PC really, although Assetto Corsa is now out on console, but I haven't tried it yet.
Good deal for the xbox including a couple of games including Forza Horizon 3.

Sims are boring, get an Xbox One and Forza Horizon 3. Most fun you'll have in a racing game.
I get what you mean. The reason I didn't get the latest Gran Turismo on the PS3 is because I was bored with it - not much fun. Pretty graphics do not guarantee a fun game & the Grid games were much more fun.The Xbox One idea is a non-starter unfortunately

That was really helpful. If it's just for driving games I'd say the XBox wins out for Forza Horizon 3 alone.
