The Independent blasted this on the front cover today (Fri 5th June)

http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-c...

http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/it-is-...

The Indies Science correspondent is Steve Conner. On the front page he challenges climate change deniers to refute the new evidence !!!

Over to you guys then !!

Can anyone explain why the change of potential energy to thermal energy is never mentioned as a possible cause of climate change? Surely it must be a significant factor.

It crossed my mind the other day when i was watching the heat rise off another car's bonet.

It's been looked at. Averaged over the the globe it's ~1% of the energy flux due to change in greenhouse gas forcing. Relatively recent paper; http://data.engin.umich.edu/faculty/flanner/conten...

Because how would you measure it if you cant define what it is?

Well i cannot think of a potential energy that could change into thermal energy without having an effect of temperature.
Which is why i didnt define one.

Awesome.

I assume Bloomberg can't afford any data for the last 10 or 15 years (depending on the Graph).

Still, at least they give Gavin a credit for the piece.

I think it is important to know that Gavin is a party to the presentation. Politically speaking.

I put it there with no comment so it could stand alone, its well executed and just horrifying enough to hit that message home, loads of people will see it and look no further than the upcurve and the assumption "its humans".

In terms of dedication to the religion they are very good at this media presentation lark.

They have indeed have years of experience related to media presentation needed to get a message across.

But GHGs did not have any effect on global temperatures until 1950 according to the IPCC scratchchin If they can't get their stories straight then there must be some lying going on.

Indeed, there is absolutely no explanation for that; it clearly should be a GIF and not a JPG.

apparently leaving out all the data for the last ten years is all the rage. seems to work in michael mann,s current presentations to the gullible.

Not at all, I just want to know where this potential energy comes from that could be a factor in climate change.
