The old stereo out of the Saab 9000 has been carefully filed!

I know where everything is, it just sometimes takes a while to remember...

People with large toolboxes filled with every possible variation of tool you can think of are mostly not that good at working on cars...

Handy to know though for that "have you got...

Thats a bit of a generalisation, but in a way I agree. I am not so sure its the big tool box and loads of tools... More about the type / condition / variety of the tools.

Many moons ago I used to manage 32 fleet workshops with about 180 mechanics. You could almost tell how good a guy was by looking at his tools...

I built my tools up over 40 years, I still have some of the spanners I bought as an apprentice. I have replaced a lot recently, some great tools out there now.

Half my tools were my fathers, mostly Williams Superslim and Gedore. The rest has taken me almost 4 decades to gather together ranging from Whitworth, AF and Metric, though now it feels like an ever constant struggle collecting Torx, Star, Euro sockets etc and not forgetting all the bits of electronic equipment required to allow working on modern vehicles

Things I reeeeeely need are (in no particular order):

Anvil
Pillar Drill
Chop saw for metal
Evolution chop saws for metal are brilliant, not used the green DIY version but the orange and blue versions go through metal easily.

Hmmm yes sometimes, however the most impressive tool chests i have seen are the ones that the mechanics use at the main dealers.

They have to purchase all there own tools and usually snap on , bluepoint and mac are the norm.

My good mate of 30 years is a time served mechanic and has an amazing array of tools , recently purchasing a second hand roll top snap on chest for 400 quid.

Some snapon sets go for 18 to 20 thousand pounds though.

I worked at Lola many years ago and it was a status thing to have the biggest/most snap on boxes and tools, the guys with the biggest snap on collections tended to still live with mummy though.

I regularly eat out of things less clean than these boxes! I would love to have a massive snap on tool box. Unfortunately I wouldn't have a clue what to do with it.

Some of these boxes remind me of how bad the snap on graphic designs are. Nothing wrong with the plain colour boxes. I like that green and black one above though.

I just have a little 7 draw 23" snap on roll cab. No pictures though. Some people on other pages have essentially the same one though.
