Rover 75 Bonnet release - help please

The bonnet release lever on my Dads 2003 Rover 75 will not open the bonnet as of yesterday. The cable does not seem to have snapped. But it will not pull (even with a pair of pliers) and seems to be stuck. Anyone got any clever ideas as to how to get round this situation? Any ex-Rover mechanics out there who may have come across this before?

Can you remove a grill if it has one to get at the cable?

Even though you think the cable has not acted on the bonnet it is worth pulling up on the bonnet just in case it's actually open but catcing somewhat.

2 People. Get one to hit the general area of the bonnet release mechanism whilst the other is pulling the release handle

Take off the offside wheel arch liner. You'll then be able to access the cable splitter box and pull the two cables that come from it.
