with this car electrics are always a problem so checking connections and feed would be a good start, if theres no feed and its 12v I could rig up a bypass feed (fused) maybe, bugger these hot days!
Just for the benefit of others thinking about doing this, please don't unless you want a big explosion. The compressor is regulated and you will bypass this by giving it a feed. Upatdawn said:

so long as it had some pressure in there, and its not recently been re-gassed, it may be OK... they lose a bit of pressure over time. if there is a leak, they tend to lose all the pressurethere was some pressure in it
