Using a vacuum pump to change the oil.
Discussion
I have an electric pump and a large Sealey vacuum pump, both are good but the Sealey is quicker. My car holds 9 and a half litres and last time I got about 9 and a quarter. I have never got anymore out from the sump plug. Never any sludge from either method and would be surprised if any synthetic oil sludged up anyway. I like pumps, quick and clean.

I tried, sold out by 10am in my nearest store, missus checked another for me near her workplace, also sold out.
Don't read too much into this. My BIL works for LIDL™ his full and entire store allocation was 8.I got one, but not via him. There were two left locally at 1600 - one of which was open and half missing.
I'll be trying it this weekend and then ramping the car to get the plug out to see. If there's interest I'll make a short video showing the results on two toyota engines.

I was going to try my luck and pick one of these up today if they aren't all gone, but just a thought...
If these are powered from the battery, on an engine that you can't turn over, and take ~20mins to extract 4 litres, is this not just going to drain the battery? Its a genuine question, I know you can run the radio without turning over for a few hours but I would imagine that this took a bit more juice.

My thoughts exactly. I use a 12v compressor sometimes and they suck a fair current. In fact they're much more effective if you run the engine while they're pumping so they get a decent voltage. Not an option here though... A spare battery is the best answer of course. If these are powered from the battery, on an engine that you can't turn over, and take ~20mins to extract 4 litres, is this not just going to drain the battery? There's one right there by the looks....
Yes, he keeps posting drivel about how bad oil pumps are and how you only need to undo one fastener to change the oil on a car. It's a pretty typical response for someone who hasn't ever done the work himself, but is just repeating what he has read or been told.Arnage14 said:

Sadly the world is full of prejudiced idiots who don't know what they are talking about.
There's one right there by the looks....Read back your posts - they've have been very opinionated with very little fact(s) to back them up.
On oil extraction pumps you've stated you wouldn't use them ever - that's fine but it's based on your view that they don't extract sludge and debris from the bottom of the oil pan and it's half a job. I would have agreed with you a few years back till I was forced to resort to using one (for the reasons covered at end of previous page) it's quite surprising how use of one changed my viewpoint and in my vehicles they don't leave more than a couple of drops of oil in the sump pan. (not every vehicle is the same - I accept that but it fully drained a lawnmower and a petrol powered jet wash so it copes with even small oil sumps)
Now the latest Lidl tools comments I could add I don't normally buy tools from Lidl but a while back I bought some air shears for buttons and I got a couple of years use out of them while I restored a Mini shell and found them useful enough to consider buying a better quality (for the price I paid I was amazed they lasted 2 mins let alone 2 years. Yes it's budget stuff but it has a place. If your garage/workshop is fully equipped with snap-on or similar gear then you are a fortunate guy.

Oh dear....keep your hair on. Do you have to be personally rude? Are you like that in real life, assuming of course you have one? Gassing Station | Home Mechanics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
