New plugs fitted.

The rubber bit got binned off. Used the plug lead to start the new plugs and it doesnt feel like any cross threading took place.

I think I'll get a magnetic socket for next time.

I am surprised that nobody mentioned this trick, electrical tape/duct tape around the extension and socket will let you pull it off the socket once done.

Lets the rubber bit stay in so does its job, I have the halfords socket set and the rubber holder is tighter than a nuns ****.

Not if you use a wobble drive though.
