Hi chaps.

Which is the live? I'm hardwiring a dashcam (done this before in other cars, have a 12V > 5V kit).

One would have to assume its the brown or the red, while the grey is for the courtesy light.
Impossible to tell unless you trace them back or find a wiring diagram, so time to get the multimeter out!

I thought this was a pisstake so didnt reply, perhaps I am wrong but I doubt it somehow

Anyway, the brown is the earth and the red is the supply, as posted above you will find the grey to be for illumination

Also note that the red from the socket connects to a black and green wire at the car loom and that wire is only live when the ignition is in the on positition

I still think this is a pisstake as it is far too easy to work out for oneself

It wasn't a pisstake we are not all expert auto electricians with directorships and goatees. I just wanted to be sure. I could not trace the red or brown to the relevant positions on the lighter socket itself. I have now established that red is live and all is connected and working. I wanted a switched live so the camera only runs with the ignition on.
