renault scenic 2002 power steering

Having an issue with the power steering on my renault scenic 1.6 16 valve 2002.
There isnt much assist,its al hydraulic by the way not electric.Somebody as mentioned a valve that controls assist according to roadspeed thats not operating correctly setting the assist to say 50mph levels all the time.
There is a valve on the output pipe of the pump with two wires could this be the valve at fault?
