Hi all, I'm considering upgrading from my very basic Halfords trolley jacks to something more substantial. I'm potentially going to be dropping the rear subframe on my M3, hence the need for better gear in this area.

I'd like one of the more heavy duty trolley jacks and would appreciate both low entry and high lift. I've never purchased a jack of this type before, so a bit of guidance would be welcome.

This looks very good for the money but I can't visualise how high the lift is versus what I have now:

This looks similar but a bit more pricey. Sounds like it doesn't lift quite as high either:

This looks very similar to the Draper but a few quid cheaper. Not quite as low entry but does appear to lift a tad more. Does look to have a better lift pad:

Anybody able to recommend any of these? Any alternatives I should look at?

Many thanks!

I have the one in the first link. Its excellent, I've been pining after a low entry jack for a long time but always made do with cheaper alternatives.

Highly recommended, felt like I was going to flip the polo in no time hehe

Its a heavy bugger

Raise your jack. Measure from top of saddle to floor.

Compare with 45, 50, and 51cm offerings as per your links.

Simples!

Max/Min Height - 10.2/47cm

(I got mine from eBay as not a Costco member)

I have the Red Clarke one in your last link.

Its very good, but the handle is long, so you need space behind you to work it.

Does it breach naming and shaming if I give my own experience of SGS engineering in response to a recommendation? I think you can gather from that it's far from positive...

I went for a Sealey 2500LE. Cost about £110 a couple of years ago. It's very heavy and feels like it'll last a life time.

Cheers guys. I'm still leaning for the Clarke one I think. Purely because that Costco one looks to be 470mm vs the Clarke's 510mm.

I have mixed opinions on Clarke stuff however, so will give it a bit more thought this aft. I may buy one after work though.

The Clarke one is a rebranded something else (that doesn't make it bad!) but apparently the ones with the inboard "roller" single front wheel aren't as stable as those with 4 seperate wheels that come out at the corners.

I bought one of these over 10 years ago, its a big heavy piece of kit, and its £200...
Access can be a problem, as its rather long.
I use it all the time, and i wouldn't be without it.

Did you go for the 2 ton Clarke aluminium job?

I only ask as I've got the 1.25 ton version of that jack which I keep in the boot of my car (never trust the factory jacking points on a classic!) and I'm thinking of replacing my cheapo 2 ton trolley jack with something a bit better…

No, I bought the heavy red one. It lifts higher and was far cheaper!

I got that one for Xmas. It's ace.

Some pipe insulation on the handle is a good idea too.

This is a little spooky, I also have the same jack that you have... I got it in Costco though!

Not the Arcam though? The aluminium and steel hybrid would be my recommendation too. Stronger than the all alloy jack which had issues, as all alloy jacks seem to, but not too heavy and not a lot dearer than the Arcam steel jack.

I could have taken you in to Sheffield Costco too.
