What parts washer fluid?

Got a big old parts washer I've just drained the manky old paraffin from - well past its best!

What would people recommend to replace it with that doesn't cost the earth? I like the sound of some of the water based fluids out there given how badly paraffin smells and the fact my parts washer says not to use flammable liquids in it....

The aqueous water based stuff isn't the great solvent replacement it was hyped up to be.

It requires more scrubbing than the solvents do.

But on the upside they don't smell that bad and they aren't classed as hazardous waste.

You can buy the stuff cheap from diy stores etc. The hmebase stuff I found better than B&Q's when I had to use it.

Theres some stuff you can get from autosmart which isn't bad, G101 is ok, even tghe tfr is pretty good at removing oily residue.

None of it will get baked off carbon etc off without a bit of mechanical help (i.e. scrapping it off)

Have a look at Jizer brand.
Our engineers used it for parts cleaning in a cigar factory.....so care needed for non toxicity.

Jizer, without doubt the best I have used, contains an emulsifier so that it leaves no residue when washed off with water.

Brilliant stuff.

Tempted to try autosmart G101 - it still performs well diluted I'm lead to believe

Shop around for Jizer, I pay around £60 for 25 litres.

I use standard 28 second central heating oil which is essentially little different to paraffin or diesel in its visocity and cleaning properties. Of course it helps that my CH system runs on it so there's a 1300 litre tank of it in the garden but at under 40p a litre I ain't spending a fortune on something more fancy.

If you don't like the paraffin smell then dump a bottle of cheap cologne in with it.
