Hi all

Makes a chirp, chirp sound when idling, spraying water on quietens it down for a minute or so. I remember it did it last winter but didn't notice the noise in the summer so forgot all about it.

Doesn't look worn, or cracked should I?

a) Just bung a new Dayco on
b) Try to clean it

If I clean it does it need to come off or can I just spray it with brake cleaner while its running?

fit a new one. I have tried many "cures" on mine and none seem to last more than a day or two.

If you've already resigned yourself to changing it then you have nothing to lose by experimenting... a squirt or two of silicon spray might do the trick, it's worked on the drive belts of my bikes before now.

I've got pretty much the same problem and the belt is recent on mine so I don't know what to do!
It's definitely the belt as I sprayed WD on it and it stops, but only for a few seconds. The only things I can come up with are that it started after I took it off to cure a water pump leak so I may have inadvertently turned the belt over, put it on the other way round and it doesn't like it or that some of the pulleys may be slightly out of alignment.
I've tried different tensions, but to no avail.
It does it regardless of the time of year, but I have noticed it does it less when the engine is fully hot.

Googling reveals that Dayco belts have a different a "W" groove, more compatible with worn pulleys and alignment issues. Apparently.

I'm going to have to take mine off to measure it, the car has aftermarket AC so not sure what length I need.

Interesting, I can't see talc lasting long though.

Mine is a Dayco, worth a try though.

A squealing belt is always indicative of pulley misalignment somewhere. Even old belts don't squeak. Careful inspection of the pulleys will give a clue as to which one it is.

Take the belt off.
Inspect it and replace if necessary.
Clean the pulleys...I used brake cleaner sprayed on a clean cloth.
Replace belt

This worked on my Morgan with Rover V8. Belt was good so just wiped it and pulleys/tension roller.
Did it 2 years ago and no noises since.

The belt needs to come off so I can measure it before ordering so I might as well have a go at cleaning it.

I'll check for pulley alignment, but if it's out I don't really know how to correct it. (unless something is worn)

a while back I went through the squeaky belt issue, changed it, it helped for a while then was back, turned out the water pump bearing was worn, new water pump fitted all fixed with the same new belt that was squeaking before
