Hi Simon, I've got a scissor lift positioned in the floor in the centre of the garage.

Think I'm going to take 'battered' advice and put down a good quality floor paint (not epoxy) for now and see how it goes.

I used an acrylic floor paint as I could not justify the cost of epoxy resin on the 1800sqft of my clean workshop.

If I park a car with hot tyres on the acrylic it will peel the paint from the floor when the car is next moved! The epoxy resin is usually much thicker and has a better bond to the floor especially if the floor has been abraded prior to application.

Carpet is not for me. Plastic tiles might work but not as easy to clean or find that little component you have dropped.

What ever you choose pick a light colour to reflect light upwards for working under the vehicle.

I wish I had a 1800sq ft workshop! Mine is nearer 300 sq ft, as a standard double garage, and I thought I was doing well. My floor paint is magnolia, not my first choice but it was cheap. I thin it down well and slap it on with a small roller. After only 6 months it's looking pretty bloody grubby and needs a few patches, but that's OK. The main function of a painted floor IMO is just to seal the dust forming layer and allow you to wipe up any oil stains, it does that well enough. I don't think I could justify an epoxy floor on a home garage unless I were going for the full tart's boudoir effect in a cost-no-object installation featuring a gleaming 911RS, E-type and/or 246 and a heated viewing gallery. Given that my place is full of bikes, sawdust, and marks where I've dragged the jack round, an epoxy floor would be a waste.

Yeah, went up to my local paint store and he told me the same thing about hot tyres lifting the paint.

I've got a large can of clear yacht varnish so will probably put down a couple of thinned coats to seal the plywood as the wifes' BM has dropped quite a bit of water after just a shower today.
