The only time I've really found it useful is the top nuts on shock absorbers, the nut is normally too recessed for a spanner when you need to turn the shock shaft with an allen bit.

I always find through sockets are useful when undoing something with limited space in front of the fastener as it can go through the tool.

Also while we're on the topic of Halfords tools, most of them are made by Gearwrench in the USA (a mid level brand of there). In fact, Vortex is one of their trademarks.

That's interesting (I'd found the Gearwrench Vortex set when doing some googling - didn't know they made other stuff for Halfords too)
