I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction here. I need to buy an extra long 12mm combination spanner - at least 30cm long. I have the longest that Snap On offer (22cm) but it isn't enough. I have an aviation spanner in the correct length but it has a zero degree offset and I need the offset at the ring that a combination spanner provides.

I would prefer a premium make so that the ring is as small as possible (tight access). Any ideas before I buy two and attack them with the angle grinder and welder?!

No idea, but intriguing, what are you trying to undo?

I've got some long Neilson flex head ratchet rings that fit that description, the head is a bit big though being a ratchet ring.

few come up on ebay if you search "12mm long spanner " not premium brands though

Thanks for the replies. Ratchet spanners aren't going to cut the mustard, there isn't enough space for the enlarged ring.

The job is the removal of OEM exhuast manifolds on a Ferrari F430. The access is a nightmare as the heat shielding gets in the way of a what is a very tight space in the first place

Can't you take a long fixed one and bend it to give offset?

I've been through eBay - although they are described as extra long, they are only about 20cm or so long.

That is a possibility although I think it'll be easier to buy two and cut/weld them together.

Unless you actually need two, why not cut the one you have & weld a length of steel in the middle?
If you haven't got a suitable piece of steel you could try a local engineering or fabrication works.

This one is 34cm in length, 12mm ring spanner - which has a slight offset if my understanding is correct (it usually isn't...)

And this one is 32.5cm in length

Thanks but neither of those have an offset - I already have a very similar spanner to those.

I only ever really F430 manifolds off to put aftermarket units on which don't have the heat shields so access is much better.

Completely O/T, but some years years ago my mates octogenarian dad gave me a load of mechanics tools. Amongst them was an elaborately cracked ring spanner. "Worth it's weight in gold" he told me. "With one of those, you can get the cylinder head off a Ford Consul, without having to take the engine out"
Somehow, I don't think I'll ever get to try it out.

As my Brummy mate put it why don't you take the standard spanner and just "stick a bit of pipe on it"?

I'm fairly certain Strap on do offset aviation spanners.

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&t...

Not sure on the length though as it's small size.

Sounds like enormous fun! I'd fork out for a good make and cut one end off to fit a neat fitting pipe for a bit more leverage, and grind the spanner to remove any radius and get maximum contact on the nut faces - but you probably know all this. Good luck anyway.

They do a 15 degree offset version of the aviation spanner?
